I rwin Goldman,
has been drawing since he was 6 years old, and has had a
passion to be an "artist", for as long as he can remember. He
has studied with many diverse artists. Upon graduating college
and serving in the army, he attended The Art Students League
in New York City where he perfected his use of perspective and
space. Exhibiting year round in juried shows from New England
to Florida, plus the Midwest, Irwin Goldman has loyal patrons
form coast to coast.

Artist's Statement

H
aving spent my entire life in the New
York area, but traveling periodically to the Midwest, I became
aware of the "openness" of the countryside. Countless miles of
flatness, disturbed on occasion only by a “cluster” of trees,
made me aware of what is now one of the important features of
most of my paintings, The Horizon Line.
My awareness
of this "line" was further enhanced when I lived in the
Hamptons for many years, enjoying miles of sand, water and
sky. Now, it’s the first thing I seek when I start a painting
and everything develops from there. Touch and feel are also
extremely important. I believe in the liberal use of my knife
to define textures varying from rocks to pilings, to a softer
touch as in leaves --
I am fascinated, trying to create
three dimensional looks in a two dimensional media. Although I
consider myself a realist, depending on my subject in a
particular painting, I tend towards minimalist realism.....If
I can convey my message in two strokes, why use
four?
In that respect, I suppose I am a poet/painter
much as some of the early 1900 painters. Since my early
childhood, I have always felt a strong desire to convey my
feelings to first paper, and then canvas, but I still love the
emotions of drawing and the commitment to be made with pen to
paper.....

About Acrylic Paintings
|
|
|
I
love to use my palette knife liberally
to achieve textures in both landscapes and seascapes. I also
love the relationship between lights and darks and, in my
landscapes in particular, the use of roads, trails, paths, to
indicate my desire to seek or possible find "what lies
beyond".
